by Deborah Brevoort

Chicago Premiere

About the show: Inspired by a true story, this moving drama follows a group known as the Women of Lockerbie – determined to turn an act of hatred into an act of love. The story begins with a couple trying to gain closure after the death of their son in the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. They meet the Women of Lockerbie, who want to wash the clothes of the dead and return them to the victims’ families. The Women of Lockerbie is a poetic drama about the triumph of love over hate – amid one of the first tragedies of terrorism that shaped the world we live in.

Reviews

“Robert Tobin’s fine ensemble brings Brevoort’s words to life with grace and power, and Jeff Brown is moving as a father too busy to grieve. But it's the actresses portraying the Greek-chorus-like women of Lockerbie (Barbara Button, Lorraine Freund, Morgan Manasa, and Hayley Rice) who are particularly glorious.”

Chicago Reader

“This 80 minute show is emotionally packed, profoundly sad, yet is a spirited look at strength of the Scottish women determined to make sense out of tragedy. The ensemble acting is terrific, with Amy Kasper and  Jeff Brown particularly effective. The tone and message is clear and powerful. The show is worth experiencing.”
