God of Carnage

God of Carnage
by Yasmina Reza
English translation by Christopher Hampton
directed by Doug Long
October 17 – November 17, 2012

About the show: After a schoolyard altercation between two 11-year-old boys, the parents meet for a civilized discussion of the incident – “practice the art of co-existence” rather than “slaughter each other with insurance claims.”   Eventually, though, polite social veneer is stripped away and wild chaos erupts.

Reviews

“Amy Kasper’s Annette is comic gold. As her husband, Robert Tobin expertly handles the legalistic moxy of Alan. Ray Kasper’s Michael has some of the best lines in the play and his dead-pan delivery is hilarious along side Kelly Lynn Hogan’s vacillating dissent into a liquor filled stupor as Veronica which creates the underlying truth of the evening.”

Showbiz Chicago

“Kelly Lynn Hogan, who plays Veronica, steals the show. Both her comedic and dramatic moments are spot on. She pushed the humor of the script and her retorts pack a punch. Hogan brings out Veronica’s need to uphold her notion of western civilization. But you also get the sense that she is a very lost woman. Amy Kasper gives a spirited performance as Annette, whose nerves seem to be giving way under an overwhelming sense of dissatisfaction.”
